Sea Bridges
SeaBridge plans to create long parallel marine links between points along the US East and Gulf coastal highway network. The key elements of each link or “sea bridge” are 1) length in time in transit and distance covered between ports on each route, 2) locations of “on and off ramps”, that is, the ports, and 3) frequency and regularity of departures between ports.
“Sea bridges” will offer people and freight companies an alternative “highway” or intermodal “railway”. Consisting of ports and ships, “sea bridges” will allow passengers to rest and relax while they and their vehicles are being “driven” down a new marine highway to a port near their destination.
Freight companies will have the same option: drive loads all the way from origin to destination or use a “sea bridge” either as an intermodal alternative to rail or as an alternative highway. We can cover more “road” by water in 24 hours than truck drivers can on the highway. On our ships, the trailers can move without drivers or while their drivers rest.
